School children from Bever discover the Beverin

Bever is the first municipality in Switzerland to receive the “RiverPearl PLUS” label for the Beverin. This is because the Beverin in the Upper Engadin is wild and untouched from its headwaters to its confluence with the Inn river – with the exception of one short section. The mountain stream finds its way trough rocky gorges to the extensive mountain valley Val Bever, itself relatively untouched. Up to the entrance of the Albula railway tunnel, the Beverin is a completely natural, free-flowing river without any human influence. A rarity. Surrounded by riparian landscapes and fens, the natural and powerful watercourse is a habitat for an abundance of rare animal and plant species. Among others, otters live and hunt here, as the supply of brown trout is rich, and the nimble water hunter finds good retreats. There is hardly a greater compliment for a river. Because the otter lives only in intact and healthy waters.

The municipality of Bever is entering new territory with the label “River Pearl PLUS” Beverin. It is the first to venture upon the undertaking and to openly commit itself to protect the Beverin.
